105 Arrests in Nagpur Violence as Police Detain 14 More and Register 3 Fresh FIRs

According to a senior police official, at least 14 more people have been taken into custody in relation to the violence that occurred in Nagpur earlier this week, bringing the total to 105. Police say they apprehended 14 people on Friday, March 21, 2025, including 10 minors.

According to the officer, three additional FIRs have been filed in relation to the incident. On March 17, there were reports of widespread stone-throwing and arson in various areas of Nagpur due to rumors that a “chadar” containing sacred inscriptions was set on fire during demonstrations organized by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) to demand the removal of the tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, located in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district.

“Fourteen accused were arrested from different parts of the city in connection with the riots. Three more FIRs have been registered related to the riots,” Nagpur police commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singhal said.

He stated that a high-level review meeting would be held before deciding whether to lift the curfew in some areas of the city. In the meantime, Singhal convened a conference to assess the situation at Police Bhavan in Civil Lines.

During the fighting, thirty-three police officers were hurt, including three officers with the rank of deputy commissioner of police. Among those charged with sedition is key accused Fahim Khan.
