The century also brings him three centuries short of Sachin’s record for most ODI centuries, which stands at 49.
Kohli reached his century in 85 balls but then changed his strategy, scoring 166* off 110 deliveries. Currently, this is his second-best ODI cricket score, and highest at home. The most sixes he has ever hit in an ODI innings were eight maximums and 13 fours in his spectacular effort.
No records were spared on that day as Virat Kohli overtook Mahela Jayawardene on the list of all-time ODI run scorers over the course of his innings. With 12754 runs, he is currently only behind Sanath Jayasuriya (13430), Ricky Ponting (13704), Kumar Sangakkara (14234) and Sachin Tendulkar (18426).

In retaliation, Sri Lanka was dismissed for just 73 runs, with Mohammed Siraj taking four wickets to lead the way. India’s victory margin of 317 runs was the largest in men’s ODI cricket history.
