Russian Foreign Ministry Accuses BBC Of ‘Waging Information War’

According to the news agency, Russia has accused the British broadcaster of “waging an information war” on various fronts, not only against Moscow but also against other international centres of power that are following independent policies.

When questioned about the contentious BBC broadcast on Friday, Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Russian foreign ministry, made the comments. This happened following the broadcast of a divisive series on Prime Minister Narendra Modi by the BBC.

The matter has already been addressed by our Indian friends, Zakharova said in a statement to reporters. I want to call your attention to the fact that this is another another illustration of the BBC’s multi-fronted information warfare, which it is fighting not only against Russia but also other major world power centres that are pursuing their own agendas.

She claimed that after a certain amount of time, it became apparent that the BBC was fighting even within the British establishment, acting as a tool for some groups’ interests against those of others, according to reports.

“It should be handled appropriately. The BBC frequently disregards the fundamental principles of the journalism profession and is not an independent television and radio corporation, she continued.

Prime Minister Modi has been defended by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in response to the BBC programme, saying that he “didn’t agree with the characterisation” of his Indian counterpart.

The Centre’s decision to forbid the contentious BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the 2002 Gujarat riots has been challenged in court, and the Supreme Court has decided to hear the case. The top court decided today to list a PIL for hearing on February 6.

The Centre issued instructions on January 21 to remove numerous YouTube videos and Twitter posts that shared links to the divisive BBC documentary “India: The Modi Question.”
