PM Modi Visit Japan To Attend G-7 Summit On Invitation By PM Fumio Kishida

The Group of Seven (G7) summit will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday in Japan. At the request of his Japanese counterpart, Fumio Kishida, the prime minister is travelling to East Asia.

In its capacity as the G7’s current chair, Japan is hosting the summit. From May 19 to May 21, PM Modi will be in Hiroshima for the G7 conference. He is anticipated to discuss issues such as the security of food, fertiliser, and energy.

The G7 meeting is “particularly meaningful” to PM Modi, according to his remarks before leaving, because India is in charge of the G20 this year.

“It will be a pleasure to meet Prime Minister (Fumio) Kishida again after his recent visit to India for the India-Japan Summit. My presence in this G7 Summit is particularly meaningful as India holds the G20 Presidency this year,” he said.

“I look forward to exchanging views with the G7 countries and other invited partners on challenges the world faces and the need to collectively address them,” he added.

The Prime Minister announced that he will have private talks with the leaders present at the G7 summit.

The G7 consists of seven highly developed nations: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States (US), as well as the European Union (EU).

Nuclear disarmament, economic security, regional challenges, climate change, food security, and health will all be on the G7 meeting’s general agenda.

On May 20 and 21, India is anticipated to take part in two formal sessions, according to Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra.

Food, development, health, and gender equality will all be discussed at the first session. Climate, energy, and the environment will be the topics of the second session, and the third will focus on a “peaceful, stable, and prosperous world.”

In the meantime, the United States and the United Kingdom have both stated publicly that they want to put sanctions on Russia in response to its repeated strikes in the adjacent Ukraine ahead of the G7 summit.

The second-year-old Ukraine war is anticipated to dominate the G7 summit’s discussion topics.

The US and its allies, notably the UK and the EU, have been sanctioning Russia ever since Moscow invaded Ukraine in February of last year. Washington has so far levied a number of penalties against Russian President Vladimir Putin, the financial industry, and oligarchs.
