Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted the maiden pre-induction night launch of the new generation ballistic missile “Agni Prime” on Wednesday at around 7:30 p.m. from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha, according to a DRDO statement on Thursday.
According to the official announcement, all objectives were successfully proved during the flying test.
After three productive missile development tests, this was the first pre-induction night launch carried out by the users, proving the precision and dependability of the system.
“First Pre Induction night launch of New Generation Ballistic Missile Agni Prime was successfully conducted off the coast of Odisha on 07 June 2023,” tweeted DRDO.
In order to gather flight data covering the whole trajectory of the vehicle, range instrumentation including radar, telemetry, and electro-optical tracking systems were placed at various sites, including two down-range ships, at the terminal point, according to the statement.
The technology was introduced into the Armed Forces as a result of the successful flight test, which was observed by senior officials from DRDO and Strategic Forces Command.
Rajnath Singh, the minister of defence, commended DRDO and the armed forces on the New Generation Ballistic Missile Agni Prime’s success and flawless performance.
Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary Department of Defence R&D & Chairman DRDO, expressed appreciation for the efforts made by the DRDO laboratory personnel and the test launch participants.
The successful flight test, which has set the path for the system’s admission into the Indian Armed Forces, was seen by senior officials from DRDO and Strategic Forces Command, it said.
