IMD issues warning for heavy rainfall in several states

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the well-defined low-pressure region that has been over parts of Rajasthan has weakened even more over the past 24 hours. This area is predicted to deliver periods of heavy to very heavy rain to East Rajasthan on June 20 and severe rain the following day. The majority of the northern parts of Madhya Pradesh are predicted to see light to moderate rainfall, with sporadic heavy rain over neighbouring areas today and extremely severe rainfall in a few isolated locations in the northwest region.

Over the next five days, the majority of the country is predicted to see light to moderate rainfall, with isolated heavy to very heavy amounts over Northeast India, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim. On June 20, there is a chance that West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, and Meghalaya in the Sub-Himalayas will have a few isolated, exceptionally heavy downpours.

On June 21–22, Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand, as well as Odisha on June 21–23, isolated severe rainfall is predicted.

The plains of Northwest India will witness isolated to scattered rainfall during the next five days, while Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will have light to moderate scattered rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. On June 22–23, there is a chance that a few scattered areas of Uttarakhand will get heavy rain.

Over the South India region, light to moderate scattered rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning are anticipated over the next five days. On June 20, and for the following two days, there is a chance of isolated, heavy rain across Tamil Nadu and coastal Andhra Pradesh.

For the next three hours, the Met department has issued a heavy rain warning for the districts of Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram, and Chengalpattu. IMD predicts that during the three hours, isolated locations over the Thiravallur, Claennai, Kancheepurani, and Chengalpattu districts are expected to see moderate thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate rain.

In Himachal Pradesh, a yellow warning has been issued by the local meteorological station for isolated thunderstorms and lightning on June 20 and 21, as well as isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of up to 30 to 40 kmph on June 22 and 23.
