Home Ministry Demands SC To Transfer Manipur Case To CBI

The Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday said that an investigation will be taken out into the viral video that showed two Manipur women being paraded naked by group of men by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The decision was finalized after consultations with the Manipur government, told Centre to Supreme Court.
So far, seven accused in the case have been arrested by the state government.

In an affidavit issued by the Home Secretary, the government stated that it has zero-tolerance for crimes against women, especially such heinous crimes like of that Manipur. Justice should be delivered at the earliest “so that it has a deterrent effect throughout the nation with respect to crimes against women,” the affidavit mentioned it further.

The ministry has further demanded an order from the Supreme Court to conduct a trial of the crime outside Manipur and suggested that the top Court directs that CBI concludes the trial within six months from the day of chargesheet filing.
