The security at Gannavaram in Krishna district’s Vijayawada International Airport will shortly be handled by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
Several entities are currently in charge of the airport’s security. According to Krishna district Superintendent of Police P. Joshua, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) recently decided to increase security and charged the CISF with the responsibility.
After flights to Oman, Kuwait, and a few other Middle Eastern nations were established that year, the Central government gave Gannavaram Airport international status in May 2017.
At the moment, 400 police officers from various wings are in charge of guarding Gannavaram Airport. During the VIP visits, more personnel will be on duty, according to Mr. Joshua.
“The Special Protection Force (SPF) is monitoring the security of the luggage checking area, while the APSP is looking after the outer area. Civil and armed reserve police are monitoring the traffic. Besides this, Bomb Detection (BD), Handheld Metal Detectors, Road Open Parties and Dog Squads are deployed during the VIP visits,” said the SP.
He continued by saying that a police officer with the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) was always keeping an eye on the security at the international airport.
The CISF authorities have replied favorably to the AAI’s request that they take over the security of Gannavaram airport along with the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Gannavaram airport will be protected by a posse of 300 CISF members. The CISF will be given control of the airport’s security once they are given the space and equipment they require, the SP announced on October 3 (Tuesday).
“The security at Gannavaram airport should be stepped up as four international flights are landing here per week, in addition to the domestic flights,” said Mr. Joshua.
