UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak Faces No-Confidence Letter For First Time After Cabinet Reshuffle

Following the dismissal of Interior Minister Suella Braverman during a cabinet reshuffle on Monday, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is now facing his first letter of no confidence. Former prime minister Boris Johnson’s ally, Tory MP Andrea Jenkyns, has demanded that Sunak be replaced with a “real Conservative party leader”.

“Enough is enough…It is time for Rishi Sunak to go…,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter) and shared her no-confidence letter.

Sunak was also held accountable by Jenkyns for the removal of their “bravely elected leader, Boris Johnson, who fought for Brexit when parliament was in deadlock.”

“But then to purge the centre-right from his cabinet and then sack Suella who was the only person in the cabinet with the balls to speak the truth of the appalling state of our streets and a two-tier policing system that leaves [the] Jewish community in fear for their lives and safety,” the Tory MP’s no-confidence letter read.

Jenkyns also went on X on Monday, shortly after it was announced that Suella Braverman had been fired.

“Sacked for speaking the truth. Bad call by Rishi caving in to the left,” she wrote on the microblogging site, in response to the former Home Secretary’s remark on police “favouritism” in handling the recent pro-Palestinian demonstrations in London.

Andrea Jenkyns stated in an interview that “we are fighting for our country now” and that she “hopes” her colleagues will follow suit and submit their no-confidence letters as well.

A vote of confidence in Sunak as leader of the Conservative Party would take place if 15% of his members of parliament sent letters expressing their desire for a leader change.

Suella Braverman, an Indian, has been replaced by James Cleverly, a former foreign minister of the United Kingdom. In the meantime, Foreign Minister David Cameron, the former prime minister of the United Kingdom, has rejoined the Sunak-led administration.
