Mahua Moitra Expelled From Parliament In ‘Cash-For-Query’ Case. MP Calls It ‘Baseless’

The report that suggests Mahua Moitra, a member of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), be expelled was presented by the Lok Sabha Ethics Panel on Friday. The inaugural report (in both Hindi and English) of the Committee on Ethics was placed on the table by Vinod Kumar, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and chair of the committee.

The 500-page report of the Ethics Committee, which looked into the claims made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, was approved on November 9. It suggested that Moitra be removed from the 17th Lok Sabha due to her “highly objectionable, unethical, heinous and criminal conduct.”

Last month, the panel endorsed the draft report with a 6:4 majority.

Congress MP Preneet Kaur, who had previously faced a party suspension, was one of the six panellists who supported the report. Dissent notes were submitted by four opposition party panel members.

Only if the House votes in favour of the panel’s proposal may Mahua Moitra be ousted.

Nishikant Dubey, a BJP MP, has claimed that Mahua Moitra, a TMC MP, received cash from businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for asking questions regarding the Adani Group in parliament. Mahua Moitra allegedly gave Hiranandani access to her Lok Sabha credentials so he could ask inquiries about the Adani Group.

There is no end in sight for the troubles of TMC MP Mahua Moitra who is facing a probe in a ‘cash-for-query’ case. The Trinamool Congress MP was expelled from the Lok Sabha after an Ethics Committee report recommending her expulsion from the parliament was tabled on Friday. The committee report also called for an “intense, legal, institutional inquiry” by the central government in a “time-bound manner”.

Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury stated on Friday that Mahua Moitra’s expulsion from the Lok Sabha was the result of “baseless facts” and a “sentiment of revenge.”

Leader of the Trinamool Congress Mahua Moitra’s 14-year political career has been marked by both elevation and turbulence; her turbulent stint in the Lok Sabha came to an end when she was expelled from Parliament in a cash-for-query case.

“Cash-for-query” case: Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra was ejected from the Lok Sabha following the table on Friday of an Ethics Committee report that recommended her expulsion from the parliament and demanded that the central government conduct a “time-bound, intense, legal, institutional inquiry.”
