A local news article that is currently going viral claims that in 2017, Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, was accused of assaulting a male nursing student in Hong Kong. Ghosh is currently in judicial prison for alleged financial irregularities.
A male nursing student accused Sandip Ghosh of “patting his left buttock and trying to touch his private parts,” according to a report in the South China Morning Post, a daily news source in Hong Kong. The student was in the public hospital changing clothes when this occurrence happened.
According to the article, Sandip Ghosh was participating in a clinical attachment program in Hong Kong at the time. Sandip Ghosh asked, “Do you like this?” and touched him indecently, according to the nurse, who testified in court.
Ghosh countered that the encounter was a misunderstanding and claimed that he had inadvertently touched the male student’s hip. The alleged attack happened at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei on April 8.
The same Sandip Ghosh who was named in the Hong Kong news story is reportedly being held by the CBI in relation to financial violations at the RG Kar College and Hospital, where a postgraduate doctor was brutally raped and died last month, according to a report that cites sources in Kolkata.
Due to his role as college principal at the time of the postgraduate doctor’s death, Sandip Ghosh has been the target of criticism over the Kolkata rape and murder case. A day after the victim’s body was discovered, Ghosh allegedly gave the order to renovate the area around the crime site, which probably resulted in the destruction of evidence.
Ghosh is being investigated concurrently by the Enforcement Directorate for suspected financial mismanagement of the college while he was the principal, including allegations of siphoning of money.
On August 9, the body of a 31-year-old junior physician was discovered in the RG Kar Medical College lecture hall. The autopsy report revealed evidence of both rape and murder. The hospital administration first told the victim’s parents that their daughter had committed suicide, which led the victim’s family to accuse them of attempting to conceal the crime.
