PM Modi Chairs Crucial CEC Meeting Ahead of Jharkhand Polls; Maharashtra Elections Scheduled for Nov 20

The Election Commission of India said on Tuesday that the Maharashtra assembly elections will be held on November 20 and that the results will be declared on November 23.

In the meanwhile, there will be two polling days for the Jharkhand Assembly Elections: November 13 and November 20. On November 23, the results will be announced. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar stated during a press conference on Tuesday that India is establishing new benchmarks for each election.

On November 26, the Maharashtra Assembly’s term will come to an end. The Mahayuti government, headed by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, is currently in power in the state. The ruling coalition in Maharashtra consists of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde), and NCP (Ajit Pawar). There are 288 seats in Maharashtra.

The Assembly’s tenure in Jharkhand will conclude on January 5, 2025. Hemant Soren is the chief minister of the state, which is ruled by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-Congress alliance. There are 81 seats in Jharkhand.

The ruling Mahayuti Alliance and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition, which is composed of the Congress, NCP-Sharad Pawar, and Shiv Sena (UBT), are anticipated to engage in a two-way contest in the Maharashtra election. The state was ruled by a coalition of the BJP and the united Sena in 2019.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which is made up of the BJP, the Janata Dal (United), and the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU), is facing off against the ruling JMM-Congress alliance in Jharkhand. In 2019, Hemant Soren’s JMM had won 30 seats while the Congress bagged 16 seats paving way for Soren to be sworn in as chief minister.

The next set of assembly polls in Maharashtra and Jharkhand are being held after the recently-concluded assembly polls in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP scripted history in Haryana by winning the state for the third record straight term. The National Conference-Congress alliance won the Jammu and Kashmir polls.
