Dehradun Crash Kills Six Students; Police Still Determining Legal Path Amid Silence on Complaints

The authorities may take action if the relatives of the six students killed in a Dehradun traffic accident do not yet lodge a complaint with the police. Since the preliminary investigation indicates that the truck driver was not at fault, police are consulting specialists regarding potential legal actions. Three ladies and three men were among the six fatalities from the tragedy, while one individual suffered significant injuries.

According to the article, the Cantt police station’s Inspector KC Bhatt stated that they are awaiting a complaint from the families before filing a case. “We have not received any complaint from the family members of the victims that could warrant case registration,” news agency quoted Bhatt as saying.

Early on Tuesday morning, a serious vehicle accident in Dehradun claimed six lives and seriously injured another. According to authorities, the collision occurred near ONGC Chowk at around 1:30 am when a speeding Innova struck the back of a container truck, causing the vehicle to be completely destroyed.

The six deceased—three men and three women, all under 25—died instantly, according to Circle Officer (City) Neeraj Semwal. Siddhesh Agrawal, 25, was the seventh passenger to survive, but he is in critical condition at Synergy Hospital.

Given that the speeding multi-utility vehicle (MUV) struck the truck’s rear left part, a known blind spot in large vehicles, the preliminary investigation indicates that the container truck driver was not at fault.

“Since the young car owner, who was driving the vehicle, lost his life in the incident, he cannot be held responsible under the existing law. The police are consulting with legal experts to explore possible actions in the case,” said Bhatt.

Siddhwesh Agrawal is still in the hospital but is doing well. He may not be able to speak with investigators for some time because of a severe head injury that prevents him from making a statement on the occurrence.

One victim was from Chamba, and the other five were from Dehradun. According to reports, the gang had taken a late-night drive before to the unfortunate incident.

On Thursday, police reported that they had reviewed CCTV footage that showed the vehicle travelling through Rajpur Roads, Saharanpur Chowk, Balliwala, and Ballupur at a normal speed.

But the car abruptly accelerated as it got closer to the ONGC intersection, which caused the collision.
