On November 14, 2024, the Telugu period action movie Matka, starring Varun Tej, was released in theatres. Many people had high hopes that the film would at least have a respectable opening, but it has now fallen far short in that regard. The movie’s first-day box office receipts were incredibly bad.
At about 0.70 crore, the Varun Tej film made its debut. It is quite disheartening that the film opened below the 1 crore mark. The movie’s only chance is to observe an upward trend in the days ahead and see if the box office receipts increase, particularly over the weekend. The movie has also received mostly poor reviews from both reviewers and the general public. This limits the potential for favourable word-of-mouth, which would have been advantageous for the film.
Operation Valentine, Varun Tej’s 2023 box office failure, had a better start than this one. For those who are unaware, Operation Valentine made 1.2 crore at the box office when it first came out. In contrast, Matka only saw a 0.70 crore opening. Operation Valentine had a 41.6% higher opening than the movie. In addition, films like Amaran, Bagheera, Lucky Baskhar, and KA are fierce rivals to the film. As if this weren’t difficult enough, the Varun Tej film would now have to contend with the Suriya film Kanguva at the box office.
Meenakshi Chaudhary, Nora Fatehi, and Saloni Aswani play the main characters in Matka in addition to Varun Tej. Karuna Kumar is the director of the film. GV Prakash Kumar is the composer of the music.
