Following the diagnosis of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) in a 64-year-old lady, Mumbai announced its first incidence of the rare neurological condition on Friday. The woman is presently being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a civic hospital, according to Bhushan Gagrani, the commissioner of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and its state-appointed administrator.
According to BMC officials, the woman, who resides in the Andheri East neighborhood, was admitted to the hospital after developing ascending paralysis after experiencing fever and diarrhea. We are presently awaiting more information regarding the patient. Six suspected GBS-related deaths and 173 suspected cases, 140 of which have been confirmed as GBS, have occurred in the Pune district of Maharashtra.
Of these, 34 were reported in Pune city, 87 in the recently included villages inside the boundaries of the Pune Municipal Corporation, 22 in Pune Rural, 22 in Pimpri-Chinchwad, and eight in other districts. Five further deaths are connected to suspected GBS cases, and one GBS-related fatality has been confirmed thus far. According to data from the state’s health department, 72 patients have been released so far, while 55 are still in the intensive care unit and 21 need ventilator assistance.
