A number of significant agreements and promises that aim to improve bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the upcoming years have come from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s three-day visit to France. With its focus on nuclear energy, technology, sustainability, and cultural links, the Prime Minister’s visit highlighted the growing Indo-French partnership. In addition to holding bilateral discussions and co-chairing the AI Action Summit in Paris, PM Modi and his “friend” President Emmanuel Macron also spoke to a gathering of business executives.
Both countries pledged to strengthen cooperation in AI applications and research, with a focus on responsible and ethical AI development. To demonstrate their dedication to promoting innovation and scientific cooperation, the two nations introduced the official logo for the next project.
In order to advance research and development, the Department of Science and Technology (DST) in India and the Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique (INRIA) in France signed a Letter of Intent to build a dedicated center for digital sciences. Ten Indian firms will be hosted at the well-known French startup incubator, Station F, as part of an agreement to encourage entrepreneurship.
To strengthen cooperation on next-generation nuclear reactor technology, a Declaration of Intent was signed. The nuclear energy relationship was strengthened with the renewal of the agreement between France’s Commissariat an IEnergie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives (CEA) and India’s Department of Atomic Energy (DAE).
To promote cooperation between France’s Institute for Nuclear Science and Technology (INSTN) and India’s Global Center for Nuclear Energy Partnership (GCNEP), a new implementing agreement was signed between DAE and CEA. A joint declaration of intent was released by France and India to work together on Indo-Pacific development projects with an emphasis on economic growth and sustainability.
India’s new consulate in Marseille was jointly opened by PM Modi and French officials, enhancing diplomatic relations and people-to-people interactions. The French Ministry for the Ecological Transition and India’s Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change signed a Declaration of Intent to strengthen collaboration in sustainable development, biodiversity protection, and climate action.
