Abhishek Banerjee: Bengal has no place for hate politics imported from Gujarat

TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee on Tuesday laid into the BJP on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary, saying there was no place for hate politics in West Bengal.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee on the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda said “West Bengal, which is the birthplace of Swami Vivekananda, has no place for hate politics imported from Gujarat. The people of Bengal and the land of Vivekananda, which is his birthplace, will reject the hate politics practised by the saffron party”.

BJP has no right to lay claim to Vivekananda’s legacy, Banerjee said. He clearly mentioned that West Bengal which is the birth place of Swami Vivekananda, has no space for hate politics imported from Gujarat. The people of Bengal and the land of Vivekananda will reject the hate politics practiced by saffron party in any way. The BJP party passed a legislation of Citizenship Amendment Act, which will grant citizenship on the basis of religion. Had Swami ji ever said that citizenship should be granted on the basis of religion, he questioned.

Addressing a five kilometer rally organized by Trinamool Youth Congress to commemorate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, Banerjee made these remarks.

The youth wing of ruling party held many rallies in other parts of the state labeling the “fake Ram bhakts”, Banerjee alleged them of following the principles of Nathuram Godse, who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi.

Adding to the statement he clarified, “They claim to be the followers of Lord Ram, they are not followers of Ram, they are the followers of Nathuram Godse” and also they follow the divisive politics.

In his address he also said that “I do not want to politicise today’s event, but I want to tell BJP members that Swami ji never preached hate politics and communalism, which is the basis of the BJP party.”

He also accused the opposition for insulting and undermining Bengal’s icons such as Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar. None of them set any religion in conflict to any other religion, said TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee.
