EU authorized third vaccine, But halts export

The Commission has asked AstraZeneca to not supply any vaccine being manufactured in the bloc before fully meeting the obligated supply target to the bloc’s 27 members states.

A Commission of European Union has announced to stop the supply of vaccine by AstraZeneca on Friday. It has asked AstraZeneca to not supply any vaccine being manufactured in the bloc before fully meeting the obligated supply target to the bloc’s 27 members states. The development came after the drug regulator of European Union allowed the vaccine for the people of age 18 or above.

AstraZeneca said that this month it would mainly cut its promised delivery supply of the jab to the EU as of mid-February. It is the third vaccine authorized for usage in EU.

This has scarred the manufacturing bloc from Britain that has been receiving the doses in a steady flow. The announcement by European Commission on Friday presented as a “transparency tool”.

The commission also said that it “will ask all firms manufacturing vaccines within the bloc — currently Pfizer and AstraZeneca — to submit paperwork alerting EU of any intention to move their products to non-EU countries”.
