Twelve Children hospitalized after inoculated with sanitizer in Maharashtra

"Twelve children, under five years of age, were given hand sanitiser drops instead of polio vaccine in Yavatmal. They were admitted to the hospital and are doing fine now. A health worker, doctor, and an ASHA worker will be suspended. An investigation is underway," told an official.

In Yavatmal district of Maharashtra total twelve children below the age of five were admitted to a hospital after they were inoculated with sanitizer instead of Polio vaccine on Monday, said Shrikrishna Panchal the District Council Chief Executive Officer.

He later informed that the children are now fine after the treatment and also told that three officials present at the incident will be suspended. Those who will be suspended include a Doctor, an ASHA worker and a health worker.

“Twelve children, under five years of age, were given hand sanitiser drops instead of polio vaccine in Yavatmal. They were admitted to the hospital and are doing fine now. A health worker, doctor, and an ASHA worker will be suspended. An investigation is underway,” The whole information was given by Panchal to ANI.

On January 30, the President Ram Nath Kovind launched the National Polio Immunisation Drive for 2021 by administering polio drops to children less than five years old at Rashtrapati Bhawan and this incident took place on Monday.

Although India has been free of Polio disease since a decade as last case of Polio was reported on 13 January 2011. But the Health Ministry says that India remains alert on preventing Poliovirus to re-enter from neighbours where the Poliovirus continues to cause disease, these neighbouring countries include Pakistan and Afghanistan.
