Either Follow Covid-19 Protocol Or Face Lockdown, Warns Thackeray

Maharashtra Chief Minister on Tuesday asked the district collectors to take strict actions against those who are not following the covid-19 guidelines as there is rise in number of covid-19 cases in the state.

While addressing a meeting with the Collectors and the Revenue Commissioners through video conferencing the Chief Minister warned indirectly by saying, “It is up to the people to decide whether they want the lockdown back or roam freely with some restrictions”.

“If people do not wear masks or follow health rules, then the district and police administration has a responsibility to strictly enforce these rules. They must take strict punitive and necessary action without showing any leniency,” said Thackeray.

Knowing that the people have started attending functions and parties on a large scale, he asked the collectors to cancel the licenses of banquet halls and restaurants if they don’t strictly follow the covid-19 guidelines especially wearing masks and maintaining proper social distancing.

We have framed so many SOPs for various fields but its the duty of everyone to follow them and if still not followed then its a serious issue, said Uddhav Thackeray.

“Especially after so many days of stalled weddings, ceremonies, people’s gatherings, parties and other social events are seen taking place without any rules. We have extended the times of restaurants and hotels but we do not see that the rules are being followed. Local administration teams should visit all such places and take immediate action,” said the Chief Minister.

“A drive should be run to trace 20 contacts per infected person in the areas where the Covid-19 infection is on the rise,” said Uddhav Thackeray

“Municipalities should start regular disinfection and spraying in public places. Go to villages and increase the testing of people using mobile vehicles. Make sure, all the systems in the field hospital are functioning properly. It should not be time to use this facility but be prepared,” Thackeray added.

The state has shown a rapid increase in the number of covid-19 cases in the month of February. In comparison it has registered average number of January’s cases only in the first fortnight of February.

The daily average number of cases in January were 2,973 whereas there were 2,926 in the fortnight of February. The cases between 10 to 15 February gave an alarm as they stood at 3,581.
