240 Cases Of New Strains, Upcoming 8-15 Days Crucial To Know If It’s The Second Wave : Uddhav Thackeray

The local authorities are allowed to place restrictions in the worst hit districts, told Thackeray.

Again on Sunday the Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said if the covid cases continue to rise for 8 to 15 days now then the lockdown will be reimposed. He called the covid situation a serious problem and has warned everyone to follow he covid guidelines. The state health workers and researchers will conduct studies to find out if the rising cases are a second wave of infections or not.

“Do we need a lockdown? If you behave responsibly, we will know in the next eight days. Those who don’t want a lockdown, will wear a mask. Those who want a lockdown, will not wear one. So wear a mask and say ‘No’ to the lockdown,” said Thackeray.

He also said, finding out if this is the second wave will also take at least 8-15 days, “Whether this is a second wave or not, we will understand this in the coming 8 to 15 days,” he said.

The state is recording more and more cases after a break in upsurge for last three months. The state recorded more than 6,000 cases on Sunday out of which 921 were from Mumbai.

“The coronavirus figures are rising…the state was reporting around 2,000-2,500 daily cases; now, it is reporting nearly 7,000…active cases have jumped from 40,000 to 53,000…last year, the numbers that we had been getting during the Covid peak, are almost equal to what we are getting now…just think what the figures would be when we hit the peak again,” said the chief minister.

The local authorities are allowed to place restrictions in the worst hit districts, told Thackeray.

“In Amravati, Akola and many places, we have asked the officers to give a day and then announce restrictions and lockdown, wherever such steps are needed,” he added.

The CM has also ordered the state authorities to ban all the social, religious and political gathering until the situation comes under control.

“I have ordered that after tomorrow’s event, where I have asked only those needed to attend, political, religious and social events will be banned for some days…you promote your party, not coronavirus,” said Mr Thackeray.

however, two districts Yavatmal and Amravati have already been placed under lockdowns of 10 days and a week respectively.

Around 240 cases of new strains have been reported in last week in India and this is the behind the rising cases, told a member of Maharashtra’s Covid-19 Task Force.
