The famous 88 year-old ‘Metro Man’ E Sreedharan has joined BJP on Thursday from Malappuram constituency in Kerala. He is a retired engineer who started the Delhi Metro project. He was welcomed by the Kerala BJP Chief K Surendran at the meeting organised for his welcome.
“Metro man Sri E Sreedharan joins BJP at Malappuram in the presence of Union Minister Sri RK Singh during Kerala Vijaya Yatra led by K Surendran,” tweeted by senior BJP leader BL Santhosh.
The Metro Man who was congratulated with the garland infront of the large gathering of BJP workers said joining the party was one of the best moments of his life.
He was retired in 2011 as the Chief of Delhi Metro.
Apart from Delhi he had also worked in metro projects of Kochi, Jaipur and Lucknow. He got retired in 2011 as the Chief of Delhi Metro.
For joining from Kerala he said, he wanted to make a difference in Kerala from his experience.
“I have been living in Kerala for the last 10 years, since my retirement. I have seen different governments and they are not doing what can be done for the people. I am joining the BJP to be able to do my part, using my experience,” said the engineer in his statement.
He also said that he was keen to contest the assembly polls in Kerala which are in the months of April-May. On asked about being the Chief Minister he said, “If they (BJP) want, certainly. To tell you very frankly, unless I am the Chief Minister these (priorities) cannot be achieved.”
His entry has been undermined by Congress.
“The high point of the impact (of E Sreedharan) will turn out to be this announcement itself,” said a senior Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.
