Mamata calls for maintenance of Law and order in Nandigram

There was an overflow of allegations of booth capturing even after the echoing of "Jai Shree Ram" chants in the area.

On the polling day in Nandigram on April 1, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee saw uproar and extraordinary sloganeering when she arrived at a polling booth in the constituency.

There was an overflow of allegations of booth capturing even after the echoing of “Jai Shree Ram” chants in the area.

This probably made Banerjee angry after which she called up the Governor and called all what was going on at the polling booth a complete breakdown of law and order. Non-Bangla speaking “outsiders” were creating uproar in the area, she alleged.

“None of the people are speaking in the Bengali language. All of them are outsiders. They are goons sent from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and they are being protected by Central forces,” said the Bengal CM.

“I have lodged 63 poll-related complaints since morning, but no action has been taken by the Election Commission,” she further said.

Responding to Banerjee’s call the Governor through his twitter handle assured that the rule of law will be upheld.

“Issues flagged Mamata Banerjee a while ago on phone have been imparted to the concerned. There is full assurance of the concerned to adherence to rule of law. Am confident all will act in right spirit and earnestness so that democracy flourishes,” tweeted the Governor.

The Chief Minister Banerjee, who has been campaigning in Nandigram for last few weeks had arrived at the polling booth after 1 pm yesterday.
