Day 1 box office receipts for I Want To Talk, the Shoojit Sircar-directed movie didn’t do well at the box office. It made less than ₹1 crore on Friday, according to news agency. The slice-of-life movie, which was produced by Rising Sun Films and Kino Works, debuted on theatres around the world on November 22.
According to preliminary estimates, the movie only made ₹25 lakh nett in India. On Friday, I Want To Talk’s overall Hindi occupancy rate was 7.44%. Abhishek Bachchan’s previous theatrical release, Ghoomer (2023), made even more money than I Want To Talk, which starred Bachchan in the lead role. The news agency reported that it had made ₹85 lakh.
The review of the film read, “Abhishek fully utilises his real life demeanour as a chill guy with some of the best one liners in the room, for his character. ‘Speaking in between when two Sens are talking is ‘inSensitive’,’ he tells his daughter’s boyfriend. I couldn’t help but spot Abhishek’s dad Amitabh’s own portrayal of an ageing father in Piku here, who is involved, to a fault, in his daughter’s life. There are pacing issues with I Want To Talk. The first half is apt, with a conflict at hand and Arjun’s plan of action. The second half however is unnecessarily stretched initially, and almost wears you out. It ends on a good, hopeful note though.”
Abhishek portrays Arjun in the movie, a man navigating a complicated connection with his daughter while awaiting a life-altering surgery. Pearle Maaney, Johny Lever, Ahilya Bamroo, and Banita Sandhu are also featured in I Want To Talk.
Abhishek recently talked candidly about putting on weight for the role of Arjun in an interview with a news agency. “Based on what you can see in the poster, I assure you. I’m no longer in this condition. There isn’t a prosthetic, and that’s me. Never again put on weight for a movie. Believe me, it becomes quite tough to lose it after a time at my age.
In the same interview, Shoojit claimed that I Want To Talk was inspired by a true story.
