Arvind Kejriwal Confirms AAP Will Contest Delhi Elections Independently, No Alliance with Congress

On Thursday, Arvind Kejriwal reaffirmed that “there is no possibility of any alliance with the Congress” and that the Aam Aadmi Party will run alone in the next Delhi assembly election. “Aam aadmi party will be fighting this election on its own strength in Delhi. There is no possibility of any alliance with congress,” Arvind Kejriwal posted on X amid reports that his party was in talks with other partners of the Opposition’s INDIA bloc for seat sharing ahead of the Delhi poll.

The leader of the AAP has already denied the prospect of a partnership in Delhi. Arvind Kejriwal stated earlier this month that the party, which is running for a third consecutive term, has no intention of forming coalitions for the Delhi assembly poll. The statement comes after reports suggested that the Congress and AAP were in the final stages of talks for a Delhi election alliance.

In its second list of 20 candidates for the Delhi election, the AAP announced on Monday that Manish Sisodia would be running from the Jangpura constituency rather than his former Patparganj seat. Awadh Ojha, an educator from Patparganj, has been nominated to run.

The Aam Aadmi Party chose to replace 17 incumbent MLAs with fresh candidates in its second list of candidates. Nonetheless, three well-known candidates have been renominated: Deepu Chaudhary, a prior candidate who lost the last election, and Manish Sisodia and Rakhi Birla, both of whom are already MLAs.

The Congress, which ruled Delhi for 15 years in a row, has not won any seats in the last two assembly elections due to poor performance. Early in 2025 is when Delhi’s assembly election is anticipated to take place. In the 2020 assembly election, the AAP took home 62 of the 70 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party took home eight.

Earlier on December 7, Devendra Yadav, the president of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee, blamed Arvind Kejriwal and the AAP for the “deteriorating” law and order situation in the nation’s capital. In addition, Devendra Yadav insisted that Kejriwal request the resignation of Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, just as he did with former Chief Minister Shiela Dixit in the Nirbhaya case. The head of the Delhi Congress further said that women are disproportionately affected by rising crime rates, including as rape, harassment, murder, gang warfare, snatching, and fire.
