Bengal sees a row between BJP and TMC ahead of voting for 4th phase of elections

West Bengal witnessed a violence between the workers of Bharatiya Janata Party and Trinamool Congress just ahead of the fourth phase voting in the state today. Even the media professionals were also attacked in the violence present at the spot.

This comes a day after the attack on BJP chief Dilip Ghosh’s car at Cooch Behar’s Sitalkuchi area. The workers of both the BJP and TMC clashed against each other that left 10-12 workers seriously injured.

However, both the parties TMC and BJP have denied to have initiated the violence and said other party had initiated it before the polls on April 10.

In the mean time, the BJP and the Left Front on Friday also alleged TMC of frightening the voters of Kasba and Kolkata by giving them money and threats.

TMC has given assurance that Rs 1,000 will be transferred to the accounts of those voters who have voted for TMC, asserted Shatarup Ghosh, the Left Front leader and a candidate from Kasba.

Chetla area which is also up for the elections also saw a row between the BJP and the ruling TMC. In the violence the workers have torn out the posters and have also pelted stones on the media professionals who were present at the spot.

Apart from the BJP and the Left Front an eye-witness also said that in their door-to-door campaign the TMC in presence of Police is threatening voters against the saffron party.

“The TMC held a door-to-door campaign urging people not to vote for the BJP. Even the police were there. Cameras of media people were broken open and chips were taken by the TMC cadres but police didn’t take any action,” said the eye-witness.

Although, no one has been arrested so far.

Slamming the TMC the Union Minister Amit Shah said, “After the violence when the BJP cadre went to complain against the TMC, workers of the ruling party had beaten up BJP cadres inside the police station. Media is the fourth pillar of the Constitution. Such an act is shameful and the EC should take stock of the incident”.

The state is under polling for its fourth phase of elections today. About 793 companies have been deployed across the 44 assembly constituencies.
