On Thursday, Bihar saw yet another example of a bridge collapsing; in the previous fifteen days, ten such cases have been documented.
According to District Magistrate Aman Samir, there have been two more bridge failures in the previous 24 hours in the most recent event, which was reported from Saran. The building was constructed by the local government fifteen years ago.
The Gandaki River Bridge, which connected various Saran villages with Siwan, was located in the Baneyapur block.
“I am going to the spot. Several other officials of the district administration have already reached there. The exact cause of the bridge collapse is yet to be ascertained but desilting work was recently undertaken,” the district magistrate was quoted by news agency.
A Supreme Court appeal has been filed in response to a spate of bridge collapses within the last two weeks, requesting that the Bihar government do a structural analysis of all bridges, both under construction and currently in use.
Two tiny bridges in the Saran district collapsed on Wednesday; one was in the Lahladpur area and the other in the Janta Bazar region.
The DM stated, “A high-level investigation has been ordered to determine the cause of the collapse of these tiny bridges in the district.
These instances may have been influenced by the district’s recent heavy rains.
In the last fifteen days, ten bridges have collapsed in the districts of Siwan, Saran, Madhubani, Araria, East Champaran, and Kishanganj.
The most recent occurrence happened a day after the state’s chief minister, Nitish Kumar, ordered the departments in charge of rural works and road construction to assess all of the state’s ancient bridges and determine which ones needed to be repaired right away.
Nitish had on Wednesday chaired a meeting to review the maintenance policies and said the road construction department has already prepared its bridge maintenance policy and the rural works department should immediately chalk out its plan at the earliest.
