The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday has ordered all the petrol pump owners and other such agencies to take down all the hoardings advertising central government schemes with pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from their premises within the 72 hours of the order.
An official of West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) said that the use of Prime Minister’s pictures in such billboards violates the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
This comes after a group of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders met with the ECI where they alleged, the use of these billboards carrying advertisements of the central government schemes with Prime Minister’s photographs violates the poll code of conduct.
The Model Code of Conduct was placed in the state immediately after the announcement of election dates on February 26 by the ECI.
