According to police reports, Bambar Thakur, a former MLA and Congress leader, was hurt on Friday when four unidentified attackers opened fire on him and his personal security officer (PSO) outside his home in the Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh. An estimated twelve bullets were fired, according to reports. A gang of armed men can be seen entering Thakur’s home and then escaping the scene on the CCTV footage.
A manhunt is in progress to apprehend them now that the police have arrived at the scene. According to a news outlet, the incident happened while the former lawmaker was seated in the courtyard of his home, which the Himachal Pradesh government had given to his wife.
According to news agency citing police sources, the accused fled on foot towards the main market area while a gunshot struck Thakur in the leg.
“I spoke to Bamber Thakur and urged him to go to AIIMS but he wished to be treated in IGMC Shimla and the deputy Commissioner has been instructed to do the needful,” Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said in a video statement after taking note of the gunfight.
In order to apprehend those responsible for the shooting event, instructions have been given to install barricades on roadways and four lanes, Sukhu added.
