Following the death on July 20 of Anna Sebastian Perayil, a chartered accountant working at S R Batliboi, an EY Global member firm, Ernst and Young encountered a significant criticism on social media. Her mother wrote a letter to the chairman of EY India requesting improved working conditions for the staff.
She claimed that despite her daughter’s hard effort, the company’s demands, unfamiliar surroundings, and long hours had a negative physical, emotional, and mental impact on her.
In response to the passing of Anna Sebastian Perayil, Chairman of EY India Rajiv Memani stated that everyone at the company—roughly one lakh people—must put in a lot of effort. He said, “We have around one lakh employees. There is no doubt each one has to work hard. Anna worked with us only for four months. She was allotted work like any other employee. We don’t believe that work pressure could have claimed her life.”
Additionally, Rajiv Mermani stated that the corporation has suffered a “irreparable loss” as a result of Anna Sebastian Perayil’s tragically cut short career. He declared, “We have offered all the assistance as we always do in such times of distress and will continue to do so, even though no measure can adequately compensate for the loss experienced by the family.”
He said that he had replied to the letter that Anna Sebastian Perayil’s mother had written to him, promising her his undivided support. He stated that he is dedicated to putting additional measures into place that would improve the current processes in addition to offering quick support.
