On Saturday, protesting farmers gathered in large numbers at the Haryana-Punjab Shambhu border to continue their “Dilli Chalo” march for the second day. A farmer stated that they are waiting to see whether the Centre makes any proposals to hold discussions before the agitators march to Delhi tomorrow. In Ambala, Section 144 prohibits gatherings of five or more individuals.
At the border, tear gas shells injured up to 15 farmers, and about 17 of them had to be brought to hospitals. Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) and Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM, non-political) organised a “jatha” of 101 farmers who marched to the capital. However, Haryana security forces halted them a short distance away with multilayered barricading.
A legal guarantee for MSP, a discharge of farm debt, a pension, no increase in power rates, the retraction of police cases (against farmers), and “justice” for the victims of the Lakhimpur Kheri riots in 2021 are among the demands of the agitated farmers.
