Giving to Beggars in Indore Could Lead to Legal Consequences, Warn Authorities

Indore, the cleanest city in India and a city that now strives to be beggar-free, has taken drastic measures to guarantee that there are no beggars on its streets. The district administration will begin filing formal complaints against anyone who donates money to beggars on January 1.

Ashish Singh, the district collector, informed the reporters that an order prohibiting begging in Indore has already been issued by the government. “Until the conclusion of this month, we will keep raising awareness about the dangers of begging. “A FIR will also be filed against anyone found giving alms after January 1st,” he stated. “I appeal to all residents of Indore not to become partners in the sin by giving alms to people,” said the official.

As part of a central government pilot project to rehabilitate beggars, efforts are underway to rid the streets of Indore of beggars. Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Indore, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, and Ahmedabad are among the ten cities that are included in the initiative.

The Indore government made some shocking disclosures during the anti-begging drive. Project officer Dinesh Mishra said, “When we prepare reports, we find some beggars have a pucca house, and others’ children work in a bank. Once we found ₹ 29,000 on a beggar. Another beggar loaned money and claimed interest. One gang came with children from Rajasthan to beg here. They were rescued from a hotel where they were staying.”

An group located in Indore has stepped up to assist the government in its endeavours, according to Madhya Pradesh Social Welfare Minister Narayan Singh Kushwaha. “The organisation will strive to locate them employment while offering them housing for six months. “We are putting in a lot of effort to help people stop begging,” he stated.
