Hemant Soren Set to Swear In as Jharkhand CM Today, Confirms JMM

One day after his predecessor Champai Soren resigned as Chief Minister, Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan asked Hemant Soren, the executive president of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), to establish the state’s administration on Thursday.

Party general secretary and spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya has announced that the Chief Minister and his Cabinet will be taking an oath today.

After Hemant was chosen as the leader of the ruling coalition by the 45 MLAs, Champai met with the governor on Wednesday to tender his resignation. Five months after his arrest, on June 28, the Jharkhand High Court granted Hemant bail, allowing him to be released from custody. In relation to a Ranchi land parcel, the court had stated that there were “reasons to believe that he was not guilty of the offence” of money laundering.

Champai had been hesitant to resign from the CM position, as the news agency had previously reported, claiming that “it would not look good” with the state elections just a few months away. Since he was only out on bail, he had also claimed that he was a “mass leader” and that attempts might be made to topple Hemant’s regime once more.

Hemant declared on Sunday that state elections would be “held earlier” and that he was prepared to face them whenever they came up at a rally following his release. “The INDIA bloc has chosen to start a revolution in response to the current state of affairs in the nation. He declared, “We have sworn to remove these feudal people (BJP) from the state and the nation.
