One person was killed and six others were injured when an Israeli shell detonated near a group of foreign journalists reporting border confrontations in south Lebanon.
The body of the deceased journalist and the six injured people, some of whom were taken to hospitals in ambulances, were seen by an Associated Press photographer on the site. Photos taken at the scene revealed a burned-out automobile.
Al-Jazeera TV in Qatar reported that reporter Carmen Joukhadar and employee Elie Brakhya were among the injured. Until the other publications provide public statements regarding the incident, the Associated Press will not identify the other outlets whose journalists were killed or injured.
The shelling happened during a gunfight between Israeli troops and terrorist Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon near the border between the two countries.
Following the militant Palestinian organisation Hamas’ attack on southern Israel on Saturday, there have been intermittent acts of violence along the Lebanon-Israel border.
Fearing that a conflict between Israel and Hezbollah could break out, journalists from all over the world have started travelling to Lebanon.
