Kangana Ranaut Claims ‘Only 3 Castes’ in India; Congress Slams BJP MP Over Remarks

After actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut publicly opposed an Indian caste census, the Congress party claimed that the Mandi Lok Sabha MP is from an upper caste and does not know the struggles of those from disadvantaged groups.

Reacting to Kangana’s statement, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate wrote on X, “Today, BJP MP Kangana said again, “There should be no caste census at all.” “Why should there be one? Why determine caste? There is nothing like caste around me.” Madam, you are an upper caste, wealthy, a star, and an MP. How would you know the condition of a Dalit, backward, tribal, or poor General Caste individual? Do listen to the full statement. And now, Modi ji, break your silence. If not to us, then at least tell your allies JDU and LJP’s Chirag Paswan your stance.”

Kangana Ranaut was questioned about her opinion of the caste census during an interview. She responded, “My position is the same as Yogi Adityanath’s. Saath rahenge nek rahenge, batenge katenge (let’s stay together, remain good. If we are divided, we will be destroyed)”

“There should be no caste census. We don’t even know the caste of actors. Nobody knows anything. The people around me don’t care about caste. Why determine it now? We didn’t do it before, so why do it now?” she questioned.

Kangana stated that women are a backward community that need to be raised, not based on caste, and that violence against them is on the rise in the nation.

“Bas Bas 3 jaatiya hain, gareeb, kissan aur mahilayein. Iske ilawa chauthi koi jaat he nahi honi chahaye (There are only three castes, poor, farmers and women. There should be no fourth caste).”

The BJP’s official position should be seen as the actor’s opinions, according to Shrinate, the Congress party’s chairperson for social media and digital platforms. This is especially true given that she appeared unfazed by the party’s recent rebuke about her remarks regarding the farmers’ plight.

A resolution supported by the Congress has been voted by the Himachal Pradesh assembly denouncing the recent remarks made by Mandi Kangana Ranaut, MP for the Bharatiya Janata Party, regarding the demonstrations by farmers.

In an interview, Kangana Ranaut said that, had India’s leadership not been so strong, a “Bangladesh-like situation” might have broken out. Then, she claimed that during the farmers’ demonstration against the three farm rules that had been abolished, bodies were being hung and rapes were occurring.

She had also claimed that the US and China were part in the “conspiracy”.

Kangana Ranaut’s remarks triggered heated exchanges in the assembly of her Congress-ruled home state as the House adopted a resolution condemning the remarks.

For several months, thousands of farmers from Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and other regions had staged a demonstration at Delhi’s borders in opposition to the since-repealed farm regulations.
