Kejriwal vs. CBI: Delhi High Court to Decide Fate in Arrest Plea Today

Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, will present his case against his detention by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to the Delhi High Court today. The bench that will hear the Delhi chief minister’s plea, which was filed on Monday, July 1, will be led by Justice Neena Bansal Krishna.

On March 21, Arvind Kejriwal was first taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate in relation to the Delhi excise policy case. The CBI then placed him under custody in June. Not long after Kejriwal was granted bail by a local court in connection with a related money laundering case, the CBI made this arrest.

In addition, Kejriwal has challenged a trial court ruling dated June 26 that ordered him to three days of CBI detention. Following this, on June 29, the trial court placed him in judicial custody until July 12.

During his three days in jail, Arvind Kejriwal was accused by the CBI of not assisting with their probe and of giving evasive answers. Additionally, they voiced worries that Kejriwal would have an impact on witnesses in the Delhi excise policy case.

Investigative agencies have accused the chief minister of Delhi and other AAP officials of taking bribes totaling Rs. 100 crore in return for creating a spirits policy that favoured a certain group of politicians and businesspeople. Later on, this regulation was withdrawn in response to the Delhi Lieutenant Governor’s suggestion that licencing anomalies be looked into.
