Amid the worsening coronavirus conditions Tamil Nadu has extended existing lockdown till March 31, which means shops, offices and industrial and commercial establishments will be working in a stipulated time period.
The state administration is asked to take a disciplinary actions against the violations of covid-19 guidelines. Municipal authorities and police have been asked to ensure that proper precautionary measures are being taken in the containment zones.
Restrictions on international travel will remain in force except those of essential services and exemptions.
The state government has asked people above the age of 65, those with comorbidities, pregnant women and children below the age of 10 to be cautious about all the precautionary measures.
The second phase of vaccination is taking place in the state and all across the country today in which people above the age of 60 and those above 45 with comorbid conditions are also included in the drive.
Vaccine shots will be given free of cost at government Covid Vaccination Centre and at Rs 250 per dose at private centres.
The assembly elections are also due in the state in the months of April-May in a single phase on 234 seats.
As announced by the Election Commission the polling officials will be vaccinated in priority as they are categorized as frontline workers.
The state is amongst the five states with most number of cases in recent days. In last 24 hours it has reported 486 cases including 5 deaths.
