Maharashtra Election 2024, Voter Participation Reaches 6.61% in Early Hours

Today, all 288 Maharashtra constituencies will go to the elections in a crucial contest between the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and the ruling Mahayuti alliance. On Wednesday, the second phase of the Jharkhand Assembly Election will take place concurrently with the Maharashtra election.

On Monday, November 18, the Maharashtra election campaign came to a conclusion. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Shinde faction’s Shiv Sena, and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), led by Ajit Pawar, make up the Mahayuti coalition, which aims to hold onto power. The MVA alliance, which consists of the Congress, the Shiv Sena (UBT), and the NCP led by Sharad Pawar, would like to make a significant electoral resurgence.

Along with several Union Ministers, prominent figures in the campaign included Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Home Minister Amit Shah. To keep its grasp on power, the Mahayuti alliance is relying on programs like “Ladki Bahin.”

However, BJP slogans like “Batenge To Katenge” and “Ek Hai to Safe Hai,” which also became a subject of contention with Ajit Pawar’s NCP, have drawn a lot of criticism from the opposition. With the BJP accusing the Congress of encouraging a “vote jihad” in Maharashtra and demanding a “dharam-yuddh” of votes, the electoral fervour also crossed religious boundaries.
