Amid the Covid surge the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday announced that she has cancelled all her big rallies in Kolkata. She has also said that she will hold only one meeting and a few gatherings on those parts of the state where cases are very low. The CM has also urged all her party leaders to cut short their campaigns in the constituencies where the next phases of polling will take place.
A rally in North Kolkata’s Beadon Street on April 26 would be her only rally in the city, she told a private TV channel.
Today in the morning the CM also wrote a letter to PM Modi in which she highlighted concerns of supply shortage of Tocilizumab and Remdesivir, the only medicines used to treat Covid ill patients and also the rising concerns of shortage of vaccines and oxygen supply in the state. The Bengal chief minister also urged the Prime Minister to ensure a speedy supply of oxygen in the state in her letter.
Blaming the Centre Ms Banerjee said that Bengal was one of the best performers in the initial phase of the vaccination drive but now the state is suffering even after no fault of her government. She even asked for PM’s resignation for the rapid surge in Covid cases in the country.
The Bengal CM also accused PM Modi for misleading the people and not planning anything. “All he says is he has to win Bengal,” said Ms Banerjee.
