In a statement, the Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat on Sunday said, the poor families are battling to feed themselves during the Coronavirus pandemic should have had 20 children in order to get more rations from the Central government under a scheme of ‘Garib Kalyan Yojana’ that provides free ration to the beneficiaries.
“Every household was given five kg rations. If 10 (people in a home) got 50 kg, then 20 got a quintal (100 kg). But some were jealous that two people got 10 kg and 20 got a quintal. Why? When there was time you only gave birth to two… why not 20?,” said Rawat.
The pandemic which led to the imposition of strict lockdown that affected economy at its worst left crores without jobs and food. Since this situation the government has been providing ration under the scheme which offers five kg of food grains and 1 kg of pulses per individual in a household.
The newly elected sworn in Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat, dismissed the problems of the households by suggesting that those familiess having few children and were suffering for food even before the pandemic should have given birth to more children for getting more ration from the government.
The Chief Minister however, said nothing on the population explosion and the impacts which the environment may face.
