Following a meeting that Sonia Gandhi had with top party leaders for introducing reforms in the party. Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal said in an open discussion held by Sonia Gandhi, she promised for ‘internal elections’, for which there is still no clarity and when they will happen.
Sibal expressed his confusion over the internal polls and also told the Indian Express that the party believes that elections will be conducted in parlance with the provisions of the constitution.
President elections will be conducted along with the elections of Central Election Committee and Working Committee, said Sibal. The party wants the institutions of parliamentary board to be revived but after the meeting on 19 December, 2020 there is no response for when that will happen, he added.
The senior leader also said, “We hope that that response comes in the next few days because it’s very important for the Congress to revive itself as a political force in our country”. Adding to this he also told that several party leaders had approached him for expressing their concern regarding the same and demanded party to act promptly.
On asking about Rahul Gandhi’s return as Congress President, he answered that ‘party does not act on rumours but on reality, so if any change happens in this regard the party will immediately inform.
With that Sibal in his interview with the Indian Express, also spoke on many ongoing issues like the continuing farmers’ agitation, state of the economy, the next Budget, the central vista project and the upcoming four assembly elections.
He also criticized the center stating that ‘this government act on impulse and it all started with demonetization, with GST and so on and also mishandling the issues is in their genes.
