Omar Abdullah Gains Momentum in J&K with Support from Four Independent MLAs; Congress to Announce Stance Today

The National Conference (NC) gained backing from four Independent MLAs on Thursday, enabling it to surpass the majority threshold in the Jammu and Kashmir legislature.

According to Omar Abdullah, the NC now has 46 members after four of the seven Independent MLAs sided with the party.

With 42 seats won in the just ended Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, the NC emerged as the single largest party. The NC now holds a clear majority after its alliance partners, Congress and CPI(M), won six and one seat, respectively.

According to Omar Abdullah, negotiations with the Congress are still going on, and they have one day to determine whether or not to back the National Conference (NC) in its bid to create a government.

According to NC president Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah was overwhelmingly chosen earlier on Thursday to lead the National Conference legislative party.

Omar Abdullah thanked the NC lawmakers for selecting him as their leader, which allowed him to declare his intention to establish a government in Jammu & Kashmir.

Congress Legislative Assembly members, led by JKPCC chief Tariq Hameed Karra, will convene on Friday afternoon in Srinagar to choose the party’s leader. The selected name will be forwarded to the party high command for final approval.

Following the election results, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu and Kashmir accused the NC and CPI(M) of hooliganism. Iltija Mufti, who claimed NC employees were harassing PDP women members, lost the poll from Srigufwara-Bijbehara to NC’s Bashir Veeri.

Despite several parties approaching him, Chowdhury Mohd Akaram, an independent MLA from Surankote, declared he would never, ever join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

According to Omar Abdullah, the NC-Congress government’s top priority will be passing a resolution restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.

reinstating statehood is the top priority right now, according to Farooq Abdullah, who stated on Thursday that reinstating Article 370 will take time because it needs a legal approach.

According to Farooq Abdullah, the NC-Congress government wants to foster trust within the Hindu community and lessen divisions across the regions of Jammu and Kashmir. This was stated on Wednesday.

The BJP won 29 seats, the PDP won 3, the People’s Conference won 1, and the AAP won one seat each in the 90-member Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. Independents won 7 seats in the union territory.
