In country’s battle against the deadly second wave of Covid-19 the government in its letter to state chief secretaries wrote that oxygen meant for industrial use in the country will now be used for medical purposes.
The letter from the Home Secretary said that the this move by the government solely aims at minimizing the oxygen gap mainly in the worst affected states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Karanataka, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Due to the surging cases in the states many states are running short of medical oxygen supply including Delhi and Maharashtra.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said that the national capital is facing a very sharp shortage of oxygen. He also alleged that the oxygen supply meat for Delhi is being diverted to other states.
With oxygen being the serious component to treat the Covid patients there are other things which the states have been facing in shortage are beds, hospitals, vaccine.
The railways have taken an initiative to supply liquid medical oxygen rapidly and in a huge amount across the country by running “Oxygen Express” in next few days. A Green Corridor is being constructed for the fast movement of these trains.
However, the state governments of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh had earlier reached out to the Railways Ministry for this delivery of liquid medical oxygen by trains.
Amid the rising oxygen demand by the states and UTs the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade has said that the current rising demand is about 60 per cent of the total oxygen production and also the demand may still rise.
