Federal Secretary National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination Aamir Ashraf Khawaja on Thursday announced in a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) that Pakistan will get 45 million doses of ‘Made in India’ Covid-19 Vaccine under the GAVI vaccine alliance.
The alliance behind inoculating over half of the world’s children against the deadly infectious diseases has been providing health assistance to Pakistan through out the coronavirus pandemic. For vaccination it had signed a deal for delivering Covid-19 vaccines to Pakistan in September last year..
Under the agreement total of 45 million doses would be provided to Pakistan by GAVI and 16 million out of those would be delivered by the starting of June this year, said Ashraf Khawaja.
During the briefing of the Public Accounts Committee, when the Pakistan Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed was asked about where the vaccine was coming from then the Health Secretary Aamir Ashraf Khawaja said that they have signed an agreement with GAVI alliance to get vaccines made by Serum Institute of India.
“It is Indian manufactured vaccine that would be administered to Pakistani nationals under the GAVI alliance that has been aiding developing and lower income nations on the vaccine front,” he added.
