On the second day of his three-day visit to the US, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with a number of industry leaders from semiconductors, electronics, and biotechnology, among other fields, and they talked about the potential and prospects that India has to offer.

CEOs of Google, IBM, and Shantanu Narayen, Chairman President and CEO of Adobe, Lisa Su-Chair and CEO AMD, Noubar Afeyan-Chairman Moderna were among those present at the CEO roundtable.

“Had a fruitful roundtable with tech CEOs in New York, discussing aspects relating to technology, innovation and more. Also highlighted the strides made by India in this field. I am glad to see immense optimism towards India,” said PM Modi in an online post.

President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised joint efforts to support resilient, secure, and sustainable semiconductor supply chains during their bilateral meeting with the US on Saturday. This includes GlobalFoundries’ (GF) establishment of the GF Kolkata Power Centre in Kolkata, India, which will strengthen mutually beneficial links in research and development in the chip manufacturing industry.

As per a combined information sheet issued by the White House, the leaders expressed their approval of fresh private sector collaboration on cutting-edge technologies. For instance, IBM and the Indian government recently concluded a memorandum of understanding that will facilitate IBM’s Watsonx platform on the Airawat supercomputer, foster AI innovation, improve research and development cooperation on cutting-edge semiconductor processors, and boost support for India’s National Quantum Mission.

The leaders expressed their satisfaction with the advancements made since the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Commerce Department signed an agreement in November 2023 to strengthen their respective nations’ innovation ecosystems as part of the “Innovation Handshake” initiative.

In order to foster relationships and speed up investment in innovation, the two parties have since organised two industry roundtables in the US and India that have brought together startups, corporate investment departments, private equity and venture capital firms, and government officials.

Prime Minister Modi spoke to thousands of members of the Indian community who had travelled from all over the nation to attend the sizable event on Sunday while he was in New York.

Prime Minister Modi participated in the first day of the fourth Quad Leaders’ Summit, which is being hosted by US President Joe Biden in Wilmington, Delaware, on Saturday. India has agreed to host the next Quad Summit in 2025 in response to the US side’s desire to host it this year. In order to promote harmony, development, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific area, the forum has become an important coalition of like-minded nations.

Primate Minister Modi will speak at the ‘Summit of the Future’ at the UN General Assembly in New York on Monday, Day 3, prior to his departure for India. ‘Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow’ is the summit’s theme.

It is anticipated that several world leaders will attend the Summit. The prime minister will speak with a number of international leaders one-on-one during the summit to discuss topics of shared interest.
