On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to travel to Kazan, Russia, for the 16th BRICS Summit. The group expanded last year, and this will be its first summit. Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates have joined the alliance, which was originally made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (added in 2010).
The primary talks of the BRICS Summit, which PM Modi will attend in Kazan, are scheduled for Wednesday. According to the news agency, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that India sees BRICS as essential to global multipolarity and tackling global issues. According to the foreign secretary, the organisation is also an essential forum for addressing a variety of global issues and helping to create a more equitable, exclusive, and transparent international system.
The Kazan declaration, which will determine the future course of BRICS cooperation, is anticipated to be adopted by leaders. Xi Jinping of China, Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey, and Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran are among the foreign leaders Modi will be shaking hands with. Additionally, he is anticipated to have bilateral discussions with a few BRICS leaders. During their bilateral meeting, PM Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin are anticipated to talk about the war in Ukraine.
There has been no official confirmation, but there are rumours that PM Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping would meet one-on-one during the summit. India wants to surpass the $100 billion bilateral trade goal with Russia by 2030, which was established during the PM’s most recent visit in July. A key meeting in November will set new sectoral trade targets, led by External Affairs Minister and Russia’s Deputy PM, news agency reported.
Enhancing cultural ties and people-to-people exchanges, especially in Indian studies and films, is a priority.
