According to sources cited by news agency, the central government is expected to begin the census process in 2025 and finish it by 2026. Four years would pass before the procedure to count the nation’s population would take place.
According to the channel, the BJP-led government will begin the Lok Sabha seat delimitation process after the census is finished. By 2028, the delimitation process should be finished. The opposition, backed by Congress, has been calling for a census based on caste. The general outline of the census process hasn’t been made public, though.
Sub-sect surveys within the General and SC-ST categories might be included in the census the following year. Additionally, it will note how many people fall into the general, scheduled caste, and scheduled tribal groups.
Congress leader Manickam Tagore responded to the report by calling the government’s failure to conduct a caste-based census a betrayal of the OBC groups.
“Modi’s refusal to conduct a #CasteCensus is a clear betrayal of OBC communities. Ignoring the voices demanding justice, he’s denying our people their due representation—all because of political arrogance. Will RSS, JDU,&TDP stand with the people or stay silent?” he wrote on X.
Rahul Gandhi stated last month that the Congress party will consider doing away with reservations once India is a “fair place” when speaking to Georgetown University students and faculty in Washington, DC.
He also reaffirmed the necessity of a caste census, stating that OBCs, Dalits, and Adivasis, who make up 90% of the population, are not adequately represented in the nation.
He added that the caste census is a straightforward method of determining how many Dalits, lower castes, and backward castes participated.
