Former Congress President and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reached Puducherry after the removal of Kiran Bedi from Lieutenant-Governor post of Puducherry. He also kick-started his election campaign as the Union Territory is going to have elections in May. He was welcomed by Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanswami and many other Congress leaders.
“We welcome our beloved Hon’ble MP Shri. @RahulGandhi ji with warmth, love and support to #Puducherry,” tweeted CM V Narayanasami on Gandhi’s arrival.
The CM also informed that Solai nagar beach and AFT ground in Puducherry are being prepared for Gandhi’s accommodation for his public meeting and his interaction with the fishing community.
The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee also welcomed Gandhi by tweeting “Our beloved leader Mr. Rahul Gandhi has arrived at Puducherry. He was received by CM Narayanasami, Congress leader K S Alagiri, MPs and MLAs of Puducherry and other leaders.”
Puducherry is going through a political crisis as Congress is on the verge of losing majority as leader quitting one after the other and on the other hand, the removal of Kiran Bedi as Lieutenant-Governor by the President are some of the reasons behind the crisis.
From January 2021, total four Congress MLAs have resigned and the ruling alliance of Congress and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is left with just 14 seats out of 33 assembly seats.
Currently Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundarrajan has been given the responsibility of the Lieutenant-Governor of Puducherry. Meanwhile, the Congress leader is all set to conduct party’s election campaign and has also planned a visit to Tamil Nadu early next week.
