Sandeep Ghosh Faces Rigorous CBI Interrogation for 100 Hours in Kolkata Case; Polygraph Test Expected

Seven people will undergo polygraph tests by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the murder and rape case in Kolkata, where the postgraduate trainee doctor’s half-naked body was discovered inside the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital’s landmark hall. Sandeep Ghosh, the former principal of the institute, is among the names; over the course of eight days, the CBI has questioned him for more than 100 hours. He appeared before the CBI earlier today for the ninth day of questioning.

Former Principal Sandeep Ghosh, Sanjay Roy, the primary accused, a close friend of Sanjay Roy, and four junior doctors who had supper with the victim the night of the crime would all be subjected to polygraph examinations by the CBI. Their polygraph tests will take place at Kolkata’s Central Forensic Lab in New Town. This has happened after the CBI was given permission by a Kolkata court on Thursday to administer polygraph tests.

Sanjay Roy, the community volunteer who was detained for his suspected participation in the case, was to undergo a polygraph examination; the CBI had already received authorisation from a local court to administer the test. Days after administering a psychoanalysis test to the accused, the central agency was granted permission by the local court to administer a polygraph test to him. Roy had already undergone the required examinations by a group of behavioural and psychological analysers from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Delhi.

It is relevant to note that on August 9, a postgraduate trainee physician was raped and killed while performing his duties at the hospital. Subsequently, the 32-year-old woman’s partially nude corpse was discovered in the lecture hall of the government-run hospital in Kolkata. The following day, a community volunteer was taken into custody in relation to the offence. After that, the Central Bureau of Investigation was directed by the Calcutta High Court to take over the investigation of the case from the Kolkata Police.
