The son of Sheikh Hasina, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, who resigned as prime minister and left Bangladesh, has accused Pakistan of inciting turmoil within his nation. According to news agency, Sajeeb Wazed Joy stated that there is circumstantial evidence pointing to foreign meddling and the purported involvement of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency.
“I am quite certain given the circumstantial evidence; I suspect Pakistan ISI’s involvement. The attacks and protests were very coordinated, meticulously planned, and intentional efforts to keep inflaming the situation through social media. No matter what the government did to control the situation, they kept trying to worsen it,” the ousted Bangladesh prime minister’s son told news agency.
Sajeeb Wazed Joy said that only terror groups and foreign governments could have supplied the weaponry used by the rioters to attack the police.
In addition, Joy Sheikh Hasina declared that she would return to Bangladesh as soon as democracy was reinstated.
Joy stated that while Sheikh Hasina, 76, will undoubtedly return to Bangladesh, it is unclear if she will do so as a “retired or active” lawmaker.
The son of Sheikh Hasina further stated in the interview that the Sheikh Mujib (Sheikh Mujibur Rahman) family will not desert its people or the struggling Awami League.
“Yes, it is true that I had said she wouldn’t return to Bangladesh. But a lot has changed in the last two days following continuous attacks on our leaders and party workers across the country. Now we are going to do whatever it takes to keep our people safe; we are not going to leave them alone,” news agency quoted Joy as saying.
“Awami League is the largest and oldest political party in Bangladesh, so we cannot just walk away from our people. She will definitely return to Bangladesh once democracy is restored,” he added.
Joy expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian government for their protection of his mother. She also made a request to India to support the development of global opinion and apply pressure to bring democracy back to Bangladesh.
Calling the Awami League a “all-weather ally of India,” he stated that by increasing international pressure, India must guarantee the safety of Awami League leaders in Bangladesh.
Restoring peace and order is another thing Joy encouraged the Mohammad Yunus-led interim administration to do, pointing out that “the country is turning into a state of anarchy and becoming a second Afghanistan in the region.”
